Have anyone tried Russian cuisine yet!?
Super good food at a reasonable price, why not right?
A hainanese influenced Russian Restaurant has been in Singapore for YEARS!!
Yes Years..
Set up by 9 Hainanese migrants in 1986, this restaurant is absolutely evergreen. Served with the same menu for over 20 years and decorations which is very old school, the service however is always on par and up to standard. Waiting on tables for 44 years, the famous Uncle Tan of 77 years old still does it with a smile. Dinner and lunch is served on wooden trolleys and dished out in front of you. This ensures that the food served is not cold and it sets a certain standard for the restaurant. This restaurant however is not halal certified. So apologies to our Muslim readers.
A few dishes to recommend from this restaurant.
The 1st - Grilled Escargots
The Grilled Escargots are grilled with olive oil and garlic. The moment you pick it up, the fragrance of the garlic is smelt instantly. The meat is juicy and tender, not overly-done till it becomes like chewing "rubber bands". This is priced at $28 for a dozen.

The 2nd - Fresh Mushroom soup and Fish Solianka
The fresh mushroom soup is like our normal cream of mushroom, but with a lighter and smoother feel when placed into the mouth. There's also a generous amount of fresh mushrooms given to each bowl.
Fresh Mushroom Soup |
The fish solianka is a fish clear broth with a bit of sourness. The soup is filled with chunks of fish meat and hard boil eggs. Tasting a little like tomato soup, but a little more tangy. For those who like tangy soup, this is highly recommended.

3rd - Shashlik Pork Fillet and Lamb
Shashlik is the Russian word for kebab. This grilled skewed meat is served with sides (Russian salad or frozen boiled vegetables and fries) on an iron hot plate. The succulent piece of meat should be eaten as quickly as possible while it continues to cook on the hot plate. There's no sauce served with the meat, so as to allow customers to enjoy the natural taste of the meat. The only sauce available to customers are chili sauce and ketchup.
The Shashlik Pork Fillet is priced at $29, while the shashlik lamb is priced at $27.
